While the two events are obviously not related, that is a sh*tload of negativity pouring on remaining Beastie Boy members Michael Diamond AKA Mike D, and Adam Horovitz AKA Ad-Rock.
The day before Beasite Adam Yauch passed away due to cancer complications, the iconic band was sued by Hip-Hop label TufAmerica, who claim the boys - along with Universal Music Group - illegally sampled sounds on their first two career-defining albums Licensed to Ill and Paul’s Boutique.
TufAmerica alleges the Beasties wrongfully sampled material from Trouble Funk tracks Say What and Drop The Bomb, which can supposedly be heard on Beastie Boys singles Shadrach, Car Thief, Hold Now Hit It, and The New Style.
After comparing the songs, we tend to agree with TufAmerica’s claims, but COME ON, people... these tracks came out in the 1980’s! Is it necessary to try and squeeze money out of something that happened over 20 years ago??
We hope this all gets sorted out neatly, sweat-free and, um, not RIGHT after the death of one of the defendants...
Take some time to grieve boys, this superficial shi* can wait!
